Fisheries Victoria Visit

Today, we were lucky enough to have a visit from the Victorian Fisheries and Wildlife. Three presenters talked to the students about the environment, legal fish sizes and species that live in our local native water areas. The students also learnt how we can preserve and protect our local environment and look after species that live near river banks.

Here are some questions that you can answer in sentences.

What did you learn from the presentation today?

What did you enjoy about the presentation?

How can we protect the local environment and the animals that live in or close to rivers?

  1. I learnt that you can’t go and fish out some fish you have to make sure that the fish is not to small. When you go fishing if you go and catch a huge fish you can’t just catch another one because it is to big and it will be
The most thing I enjoyed was patting the yabbie because the yabbie is so slimy and gross so it was really fun.
1 We can stop throwing trolleys into our lakes and rivers.
2 We can also stop throwing in toxic waste that make the animals ill.
3 We can also prevent the usage of boats gliding through the sea harming wildlife.
4 It is also a problem with oil spills from the to much usage of bouts.

  2. I learnt that there are different fish that come from different places..
I enjoy when they let us touch the animals because the animals fantastic.
We can protect our local environment and the animals that live in or close to water by stopping people from littering and killing small fish.

  3. I learnt that female and male yabbies have a little difference that you can tell if its a male or a female. FEMALE: Round rings on the inside base of third set of legs. MALE: Twin projections on inside base of last pair of walking legs.

I enjoyed learning about all the different types of fish in the water and how we can save all the fish and I also enjoyed all the fish games and patting the yabbies

Not littering, not catching endangered fish, make sure their are not any oil or gas leaks in boats or cars and picking up and cleaning up the rubbish int the water and the environment.

  4. 1. I learnt today at the presentation that if you catch a fish that is less than 30cm you have to put it back.
    2. I enjoy today the fish.
    3. I think we can protect the environment by putting signs up and pot fences up

  5. I learnt you have a curtain amount of fish you can catch and you might get a bag if you fill it up you can’t put anymore in you have to stop.

I enjoyed looking at the yabbies because we could touch them and I touched the blue one.

We can protect the enviourment by not littering and not go fishing so MUCH!

  6. I learnt that if you catch a Murray cod you have to throw it back into the water if it is not 60cm long because it has to breed before you can have it so there is more in freshwater

I enjoyed catching the fish and seeing whether you can keep them or throw them back into the fresh and salt water.

We can help the environment from becoming polluted by putting our rubbish in the bin.

  7. What did you learn from the presentation today?
Today I learn that if you catch fish that are not 30cm long or more then you have to put the fish back in the water.
I learnt that if you want to compare a female yabbie to a male yabbie is that the female yabbie has legs on her legs and the male has no holes on his legs.
I also learnt that platypus’s don’t live in water with any other things like food, shelter, other mates, hiding spots and grass for it to be a proper home.
I learnt that you always have to measure a fish before taking it unless it is a rainbow trout because if you take a fish that is less then 30cm you are breaking the rules.
I learnt that if you catch a Murray cod you have to through it back in to the water.
I learnt that if you are fishing you always have to fish with friends so you don’t fall in the water and so if you get hurt someone is going to be their to help call somebody for help then you can get taken to the doctors.

What did you enjoy about the presentation?
The thing that I enjoyed about the presentation is the things that they were teachings because if any of us goes fishing then hey can use the facts from the wildlife and fishers people to go fishing. I found the yabbies really interesting because they were really interesting and I’ve never seen yabbies before until now. I thought that the short fined eel was amazing because it would follow your hand if you drag your hand across the glass and it is really long. I think that the huge crab on the other side of the truck was really scary because it I really huge and I thought it was freaky being in that small tank if it is really big.

How can we protect the local environment and the animals that live in or close to the rivers?
We can save the animals and the environment if we stop littering and if we make sure we put back 29cm or less fish back into the water for safety is how we can help the fish in the water and the environment. Of we stop throwing junk into dams or streams so we don’t kill animals in the water. If we stop stepping on plates near the streams then the animals and environment would be saved.

  8. Today I learned that all fish have a different name, and I leaned that you can’t take fish that are too small. You have to throw them back into the water. Today I enjoyed seeing fish that I had never seen before. We need to protect our environment so that the fish are not killed and become extinct

  9. What did you learn from the presentation today?
I learnt that it is very easy to tell the different between an male yabbie and and a female yabbie. I learnt that some fish have a minimum and maximum for fish lengths. I learnt that if you catch a rainbow trout it doesn’t matter what size it is.

What did you enjoy about the presentation?
I enjoyed that we got to interact with the things that the people used to teach us how to fish and what we came to protect our native fish because it would of been boring if we didn’t get to interact and the people that were talking just show us and that is it. I enjoyed getting to touch the yabbies because I got to feel what the yabbies feel like and see what they will do if you harm them.

How can we protect the local environment and the animals that live in or close to rivers?
We can protect our local environment and animals living in or close to rivers but stop littering and not pulling apart plants where the animals hind and we have to watch our step when we are near a river or steam.

  10. What did you learn from the presentation today?
I learnt that if a fish is less than 30cm, you have to throw it back because it is too small to keep, if it it higher than 30cm then you can keep it!
learnt that if you want to compare a female yabbie with a male a female has a hole in two of its legs!
I learnt that if you catch a Murray cod you have to throw it back into the water!
I learnt that if you are fishing you have to have a friend with you just in case youdrown or fall into the water!
I learnt that you always have to measure fish before you can take it just to make sure that its not too small!

What did you enjoy about the presentation?
I enjoyed that the creatures that they had, like the fish, and crabs, I found it very interesting because we learnt a lot and it was a good topic, to work/talk about.
I enjoyed all the groups that they had, ones where we could fish our selves or where we could touch or name animal or the last one where we could make our own little river. I enjoyed how we had fish to touch and we could name the fish, I also liked the types of fish. I also enjoyed listening to the people talking about how we can help the environment and how we can stop littering

How can we protect the local environment and the animals that live in or close to rivers?
We can protect the animals forgot littering and making their environment healthy for them to live in, make sure when we are walking not to step on plants that are alive or dead. Not to be greedy when you are fishing, and if the fish are less than 30cm then throw it back into the water.

  11. Today from the presentation I learnt that selfish can have eggs witch that I never now that and also thAt some sharks don’t have any teeth and that means that they are harmless and that with the rainbow trout no mater what size it is you can steal eat the fish and with some fish if you catch them you have to put them back because the lady said that they are becoming endangered.

Today I enjoyed seeing the yabbies because it really reminded me of me when I was little because I got dared to like picked up a yabbie and this time I could only like touch them because I forgot how to pick them up so I didn’t want to just in case and I also like seeing the lags lobster because I went to the aquarium and I saw a have one it was prolly the biggest won I have ever seen before so that was good and the eel was so small I always see like really big ones but that was the first time seeing a baby one before.

We can protect the environment and the fishes I think that we can help the fishes by acutely catching the fish and then putting them in another habitat and then fixing the other habitat and then getting the fish Nd then putting it back into the habitat.

  12. What did you learn from the presentation today? That when you go fishing you have to catch a adult fish or you get fined, you have to catch an adipult fish because they haver already had babies but you catch a baby fish it make them get extinct fast. And there some fish that are protected that you can’t catch because they are very rear and if you catch them is increasing there chances of getting extinct. There are some fishes that you haver to kill because it can chass away a native fishes habitat or they can make they water deity by shafting the sand every were witch makes it hared for the other fish to breath. I also leant that platypuses habaitat has to conttane players to hide, friends, a good sip lays of food, and there favourite food the yabbies. I also leant that eels when they are an adult they mouthes seal up and there stumicke dierpears and can’t eat any more. And the last thing I leant was the yabbies skin is very tuff and if they loose a leg it will comes back when they shed there skin.

What did you enjoy about the presentation? I enjoyed leaning a lot about fishing and the lose like you have to catch certain fish and the fish has to be a adult stage and they have to be finished breading and if the fish is 1miter or more you can’t catch them. I enjoyed catching fishes with a magnet and then knowing what fish it is and measuring it. The last thing I enjoyed was making a habitat for the platypuss we mad it with the food they like to eat and the place to hide so bigger animals don’t attack them or so they can creep up to there prey and they need friends to.

How can we protect the local environment and the animals that live in or close to rivers? We can protect them by not littering witch cores all the rubbish to go into the water and the animals could chock on the rubbish and die. We can stop catch fishes that are endangered on not catching little baby fishes because we need to have plenty of fish in the environment.
