Steven Bradbury – Australia’s First Winter Olympic Gold Medalist LOOK & LEARN

Steven Bradbury was a speed skater and had won a bronze medal at a previous Olympic Games in a speed skating relay. In 2002 the Winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City, Canada. Prior to these games, Australia had never won an Olympic gold medal at the Winter Olympics. At the conclusion of the games, Australia had won two gold medals. Steven Bradbury was Australia’s first Winter Olympics gold medalist. The way he won the race was amazing.     Stephen Bradbury had planned out the whole race, he would stay at the back and wait for the others to fall, he did not think this tactic would work when all the sudden the Chinese guy pulled down another contestant and they fell the other two didn’t know what was happening they got distracted and looked at them while there feet bumped into the two that had already fallen over and Stephen didn’t fall over and crossed the line first.

    – Explain how Steven Bradbury would have felt during the race.
    He was probably doubting himself and that he would never win so he slowed down and went to the back. I would have felt like I’m not the best and that I can’t win and giving myself negative answers instead of positive and felt like and idiot that I could make it this far because I’m not as good as anyone else.

    – Explain how Steven Bradbury would have felt at the end of the race.
    HAPPY! He would have felt better that he won and was thinking weather he would take the gold medal or not because he knew he wasn’t the best but he still won, so he took it not for the 90 seconds of the race, but for the 12 years that it took him to get to that 90 seconds.

    – Do think this is a dangerous sport? Explain your answer.
    YES, The video is a great example, see how they all fell over and they have really sharp blades onto their skates it could have cut your leg open, and that’s what happens to Stephen 8 months before the race, he almost bleed to death and 2 months before that he fell forwards and hit his head on the floor!
    So Yes it is a dangerous sport.

  2. At the end of the race, Steven Bradbury would of felt very happy, lucky and surprised because he had accidentally won. The only reason he accepted the gold medal was because he had trained so hard for 12 years to become the best skater he could possibly be.

    The other competitors would of felt disappointed and annoyed because at first, they at the front, then they take a little tumble and lose. They might have a sore head after that crash into the Barrier.

    During the race, Steven Bradbury was coming last. Suddenly the skaters in front of him took a tumble and crashed straight into the barrier just before they crossed the finish line. Fortunately, Steven did not tumble with them and kept going, as well as passing the other competitors and crossing the finish line first.

    Steven Bradbury had one the race and the others fell and Steven was last until the others fell and he thought if he should take the gold meddle because he had a little time to think and and he said……. He would take it because of the fifteen years that he has bin training and Brocken lots of things he said YES!!!!

    I think he would feel a little bite of ashamed of him self because he was coming last in the race. He might also think that he was a bad sport a bad thing to do is to wave you hands up you should shake hands with them.

    – Explain how Steven Bradbury would have felt at the end of the race.I think he would of felt a bite of happy and sad because he was a bit of a cheat. I think that he could feel happy for they others and help them.

    I think that the 3 would feel very sad because he was cheating a bite because he could of stopped and said if they were ok. I personally think if I tripped someone like the Chinese man I would not push some one out of the way I would go around them instead of pushing them.

    I think that it is a bad sport because you could break your neck and you can go to the hospital and you could die because of this dandlers sport.

  4. – Describe the finish of the race. Steven Bradbury won the race the winter Olympic ice skating by luck because the opponents tripped over by an accident.

    – Explain how Steven Bradbury would have felt during the race. Surprised because he won it by luck. and he felt Ashamed of himself because he shouldn’t of the person in front should of won.

    – Explain how Steven Bradbury would have felt at the end of the race. Embarrass because he wasn’t meant to win the winter Olympics and he felt disappointed of him self.

    At the last turn Steven was at last place and all of a sudden a ice skater felled and took out all of the other skaters and Steven cross the line with a time of 1.29.1

    – Explain how Steven Bradbury would have felt during the race.
    He felt like he would loss because he was at the back of the track and everyone was in front of him and he was trying his best.

    – Explain how Steven Bradbury would have felt at the end of the race.
    He felt embarrassed but he used the same tactic and it worked the tacit was stay at the back and stay out of everybody’s way and they all felled so he won.

    I think the other racers felt disgraced in each other because they could of won.

    Steven must of felt embarrassed because he wasn’t meant to win the gold medal.
    I think the sport is dangerous because he’s injuries made it dangerous.

    In the race Steven Bradbury was coming last for all of the Laps but right at the end he comes back because a Chinese person fell over and then the first person fell over and then griped all of the other and they all fall over but Steven because he was right at the back so he new all he had to do was just glide right though the finish line some of the other got up and tried to come second and there’d

    Steven would of felt sad because he now that he didn’t deserve the gold mettle because he only won because all of the other fell over he new that he didn’t deserve it he got up in first place and fort should I have the gold metal he said after 12 years I will have it i think I should have it.

    I think he was feeling in barest and glade that the race is over because when he was talking he said that he was not shore if deserved the golden mettle because the chines person nock the other chines person then they all fall down but the Steven Bradbury was steel up and won the race.

    Steven Bradbury felt during the race that he wasn’t going to win the race because he was at the back of the pack and felt disappointed because he know that he cannot cep up with them.

    I think that he was surprised at the end of the race because they all fall over and that he didn’t fall over and won the race and felt in barest and feeling fantastical that he won the race.

    On the final lap he was coming last and every competitor they
    Glide and they crash and Steven Bradbury went to the finishing 
    line to end the race and he won a precious shiny gold meddle.

    He feel disappointed because he was last from all the laps but he
    still won when the competitor people had a tumble all and he feel
    embarrassed when he won and competitor the other people 
    racing but one person stayed up and he finished the race.

    He was embarrassed at the because the other competitor they 
    didn’t make it over the finishing line.

    The last lap of the race, they approach the last turn Steven Bradbury was at the end of the pack, then all of a sudden, an ice skater fell over and knocked all the others over. Steven Bradbury was surprisingly, still standing and crosses the line. The other ice skaters try to get up, but they all fall over because of the ice. When Steven Bradbury crossed the line he didn’t know whether to be ashamed and hide in the corner or feel proud of him for winning and throw his hands in the air with the taste of victory. After the race, Steven approaches the podium and he gets awarded for winning the race with a gold metal.

    During the race Steven was feeling ashamed because he comes to the USA and races for his country in the Winter Olympics and he is coming last. But anyway if Steven Bradbury lost he would still be the best ice skater in the whole of Australia. And being the best ice skater in the whole of Australia is still good. Steven could of also felt surprised or lucky. He could of felt surprised because in the video he said he wasn’t as good as the other guys ice skating, but still won by a pigs tail surprisingly. He could of felt lucky because even though he did not mean to win, the others somehow fell over and he just kept on racing. ITS A MIRACLE.

    At the end of the race Steven felt like he didn’t deserve the gold metal because…

  12. 3 man’s fell and slid across the ice and crashed into the barrier and Steven Bradbury was the last man standing at the end of the race while the 3 man’s on the ground Steven Bradbury was keep gliding along and won the race.

    Steven Bradbury would of felt not good enough while of the start of the couple of laps and then started to feel like that he was defiantly not going to win the race. He might of felt down. On the last lap he was so lucky because of the 3 men fell and glided across the ice into the barrier on the last lap and Steven Bradbury would of pushing him self to the end of the race.

    At the end of the race he had might of felt embarrass because he might of was thinking to him self that, did I actually deserve this golden Medal? And I hope the other competitors are okay and did not hurt themselves by sliding across the ice into the barrier. He could also of felt happy that he had of won a golden medal of the first Australian golden Medal I the winter sports.

    I think that this is a dangerous sport because Steven Bradbury cut his leg and nearly bleed to death. And another time in training, he slipped, smashed into the wall and snapped his neck. Also the blades on the skates are razor sharp. That is how he cut his leg. You can also get cramps in your stomach because you are leaning over while you skate.

    Describe how the other competitors would have felt.
    They would have felt confident for the full race. But at the end they would have felt disappointed, sorry and amazed that Steven won the race. I also think that the other competitors were nice because they let Steven have a choice if he wanted to take the gold or to leave it and let his opponents have it.
