GOAL SETTING

A goal is something you set out to do and try to achieve. There are many types of goals and they can be used for almost everything that you do.

Goals can long-term or short-term. An example of a short-time goal is, ‘Beat your last time in the run.’ A long-term goal might be, ‘Run under 3 minutes at the end of the year.’

All goals you set must be realistic and achievable. What do these two words mean?

This year we will begin to set and use lots of short-term goals. The goals will be based on being a good active learner as well as academic goals.

Your active learner goals will need to be based on how you approach your work, organisation, independent learning skills, working in groups, listening and joining in discussions.

Your academic goals will be aimed to improve your work. For example you will set a goal for reading and that goal will improve your reading skills. An example of a reading goal would be, ‘Track my inferences about a character when reading.’

When setting a goal, you need to think very carefully about what you would like to improve on.

Today we are going to set three goals:

  1. Active learner goal.
  2. Reading goal.
  3. Writing goal.

You will post your goals as a comment on the blog. You MUST be accountable for your goals.

    The Active Learning Goal:
    Try to stay on task more and try not to get distracted or distract others.

    The Writing Goal:
    Try to use at least 10 powerful words in my writing to make it sound better.

    The Reading Goal:
    Try to make connections to help me get a better understanding of what the author is saying in a text.

    1. For my reading goal I thought I was successful because I made descriptive connections that I understood and followed on from that to get what the author was saying in the text.

    2. I think I achieved my writing goal because I had put more than 10 descriptive words in one piece of my writing.

  2. My reading goal:
    To be able to complete a well-done response following all of the expectations.📚

    My writing goal:
    To be able to follow the writing process and also complete at-least one excellent piece of writing.📝

    My active learner goal:
    To always be independent and to problem solve by myself.

    1. How I achieved my writing goal:
      I completed more than my goal because I completed a well-structured Persuasive piece on ‘Graffiti-Is it Art or Vandalism?’. I also completed a detailed and descriptive 100WC on ‘The Hotdog eating competition’ which I replaced dead words with synonyms. I feel that I HAVE achieved my goal.

  3. Active learner goal: I would like to try to not get distracted during writing and reading.
    Reading goal: I would like to stretch out my choices when it comes to reading responses instead of using the same ones all the time. For example, next week I will be doing a talk to the author and I will focus on questioning and determining importance.
    Writing goal: I would like to try and use more adjectives, similes, emotive words, synonyms etc. in my writing.

    1. I think I have achieved my reading goal because I have used a completely different response than what I usually do because I have not done an independent talk to the author since last year.

    2. I have achieved my goal because I have used lots of things to improve my writing for example, I have used lots of synonyms, adjectives and similes.

  4. With my active learning goal I would like to focus on my work and not get distracted.
    📝My writing goal is that I can add more similes, adjectives, emotive words etc.📝
    📖My reading is goal that I can use more comprehension strategies in my reading.📖

    1. This week I have achieved my goal because I have done a SQ3R that has multiple comprehension strategies and my goal is to use more comprehension strategies in my reading.

    2. I have achieved my goal because in my writing I have been putting in more adjectives in my writing and more words that help my writing be more engaging.

  5. Reading.
    My goal for reading is to get more sticky notes down so I can do a better response. I need to track my inferences about a character.

    Writing.
    My goal for writing. My goal is to follow the writing process correctly. And to add adjectives and emotive words and to also get more structured writing peaces in my folder.

    My active learner goal is to remember to do things and to focus more on my work and not mess around on the floor. Work independently and not distract others and not get distracted.

    1. This week I did not achive my goal because I was working on SQ3R with Mr Andrew. But for SQ3R I have achived a goal because I’m understanding oh a SQ3R works.

  6. My goal for reading is to be able to deeply get into my characters head so I can understand the book better by inferring feelings and thinking about the characters.

    My goal for writing is to get at least 5 emotive words in my writing to help it sound better.

    My goal for being an active learner is to be independent. Also not get distracted by others and stay on task

    1. Reading Goal: I think I achieved my goal because I got inside my readers head I got inside my readers head by getting deep inside my book where I couldn’t hear anyone. I also used connections.

    2. I did my goal really good because we just did a 100wc and I got more then five emotive words but I also got it in my information report about the commonwealth games I went back a and put some in.

  7. My goal is to get my writing done because I always go slow at writing and I wish that I could do the best that I can do.

    My goal is for when I do my reading I want to go fast at it because I am a very slow reader and I don’t want to be behind like always with reading.

    With active learning my goal is to do things and the people on my table get me distracted and I hope that they can stop because I am always getting things unfinished.

    1. I think that I have a heaved my goal after I was done doing what I had to do on the flor than I come back up and I was successful to get my reading done because no one was bothering me and I am done with my reading.

    2. I think that I have a heaved my goal because I have done my things that I was told to do and I wasn’t lazy and I think in writing this week I think that I have done my goal and I have followed my writing proses sand I think that I could do it for ever and I think that I did an awesome job.

  8. MY READING GOAL
    My goal for reading is to be able to track my thinking and the characters feeling on sticky notes.📚

    MY WRITING GOAL
    My writing goal is to be able to add descriptive language like Similes, adjectives, emotive words etc. to make my writing much more descriptive and engaging to make sure the reader wants to keep on reading. 📒

    AN ACTIVE LEARNER GOAL
    My goal to become an active learner is to be able to join in the class discussions and to have eye contact with whoever is talking or suggesting something. Every piece of my work from now on will be the quality of what my work should be at this stage. 😄

    1. This week I was able to achieve my reading goal. I achieved my goal because I was able to track my thinking about a character and their feelings on stick notes. When I did my Open Minded Portrait I included evidence to back up my thinking.

    2. This week I was able to achieve my writing goal. I achieved my goal because I added descriptive language like similes, adjectives, emotive word etc. Which made my writing much more descriptive and engaging. To make sure the reader wants to keep on reading my piece of writing and never ever wants to put the draft book down.

    My writing Goal is to try to follow the writing process and my writing properly

    To try to infer the charters feeling and thinking using stick notes.

    Active learners
    Try to find a solution to a problem before asking for help.

    1. This week I could not achieve my goal because I was working on a SQ3R with mr Andrew. What I achieve in a SQ3R was to be able to be able to use comprehension strategies

  10. 1. Active learner goal.
    For my active learner goal I would like to focus more on my work and not get distracted. I think I should also start reading the anchor charts around the room to help me with my work. I would like to stay on task and not talk to people. I also do not want to be distracted and not to distract others. Also try not strut around the room like someone crazy once I’d finished my work.

    2. Reading goal.
    My short reading goal is to complete a 3 star reading response because lately I haven’t been doing a reading response I’ve been putting the books back I want to do an authors message response that explains what the authors message is and provides evidence to why I think that’s the authors message.

    3. Writing goal.
    I want to complete my seed on the Olympic Games with facts that I can use for my information report. I also need to follow the writing process.

    1. I have completed my short active reading learner goal because I have read a whole sentence on coca-cola and have finished amazing SQ3R on my chosen topic.

      1. I have completed half of my writing goal I have improved on the writing process goal and I am up to editing and revising my Matt Cowell infomation report, I have not published my Olympic game seed. 📝🎶

    I would like to be on task and not get distracted.

    Reading goal
    To be able to use inferring to know what the authors message.

    Writing goal
    To make sure I use adjectives in my writing.

    1. I think I did make my goal because I done inferring and I did the authors message.
      From my book I was able to infer my book with my reading.

      1. I think I did my goal because I used lots of adjectives in my 100 word challenge.
        Like franticly and others.

    As an active learner my goal is to be independent because I need to stay on task, don’t get distracted and work by myself. Be an active learner to have positive body language, look at the person who is talking, participate in the discussion and to be organised to get things ready for class.

    2)Reading goal.
    My reading goal is to do synthesising to change my thinking while I am reading the book.

    3)Writing goal.
    To follow the writing process and put emotive words though my writing.

    1. For reading I have used more thinking and in my synthesising my thinking has changed though my reading. I achieved my reading goal by being independent and getting more reading done for my reading response.

      1. For writing I have in proved my writing though the week because today I finish my seed and I have moved on to my draft. I have follow the writing all the time.

    My goal is to be independent by being an active learner and to do my work and concentrate on my OWN work.
    Reading goal.
    For my reading, I would like to achieve more sticky notes by determining importance and start an OWI response.
    Writing goal.
    To improve my writing I will use adjectives and similes.

    1. The thing that did well was to put in adjectives and put in sticky notes, Eg when I made a response because of the stick notes. An adjective is when I put it into imformation report.

    To complete a synthesising wheel reading response that shows how my thinking has changed.

    Writing goal
    Structure a persuasive piece with strong emotive words.

    Active learner goal
    I want to be able to look at the person who is talking during class discussions.

    1. I didn’t do it to day because I was doing a SQ3R with mrandrew with the sq3r I inferred one of my question.

  15. I want to try problem solving by myself before putting my hand up and asking the teacher for help.

    I want to improve on my synthesising wheels by determining the most important parts from the text.

    I want to improve on my writing by putting more emotive words and adjectives inside each piece of work I do.

    My goal for writing is to put powerful words and use more adjectives and to structure my writing correctly.

    Read
    My goal for reading is to be able to infer more and ask questions. I need to infer the authors message and try to understand what the author is telling me.

    Active learner
    My goal for active learning is to not get distracted and concentrate on my work and me not distracting other people.

  17. 1. Active learner goal- My goal would have to be to not get distracted by other people, and get more work done. Also to not distract others or you will stop you and them from getting there work done.

    2. Reading goal- To track my thinking down more to understand the book better. Also to to better responses.

    3. Writing goal- To put mor adjectives in my work. To be more descriptive. Also to make my writing make since and read it all before you start on it, because you could repete your self.

    I hope this is what we were suppose to do because I really did not understand it.

    To put more descriptive words in and have more powerful language

  19. Today I was able to achieved my goal from starting a SQ3R and writing important keywords and asking a couple of questions and picking 3 important parts of the text. Also from writing sticky notes to keep track of my thinking.

    1. ~How I completed my Reading Goal:
      I have completed a well-done and correctly structured a Reading Response because I followed all of the expectations for a Synthesising Wheel such as tracking my thinking and being able to add to and change my thinking.

    2. This week I was able to achieve my goal because I was able to start a unpack a seed and start a writing piece and finished it. Also I was using emotive and descriptive words in my writing to make it better. My topic that I was working on was Ariana Grande my strong words that I used was Intelligent, attended, beautiful and more others.

  20. My goal was that I did the character I wrote it on the sticky notes example the character did not feel like he didn’t want his dog because she Is under control would not listen the owner and try’s to get people to help him.

  22. I did achieve my work by use emotive words and the thing that I put in my work is sunny,eager,yummy and more it has made my work much better then before.

  23. I achieve my goal because I have put adjective and emotive words example I frantically through hot dogs down my throat and example of emotive word gobble.
